Independent owner and operator Klaus Wermuth established Cargo Care as a fully registered limited liability company in Brisbane, Australia in 1993. Klaus retired in 2010 and the business has been taken over by Mr Jason Hill and Captain Olav Castellino.

JASON
Joined the South African Navy in July 1992 and was posted to the MV SAS PROTEA, Hydrographic Survey Vessel. In January of 1993 was the youngest member on board when the vessel went to the South Pole to deliver scientists and supplies to a research vessel stationed there. Completed compulsory military service in July 1993. Joined S.G.S. South Africa (Pty) Ltd in June 1998 as a trainee minerals division inspector. During this time learned how to do draught and bunker surveys, quality and quantity gradings on scrap metal within South Africa.

Left S.G.S. for Bona Fide Marine in March 2001. On leaving Bona Fide Marine in October 2005, joined Independent Surveyors CC in Durban as a surveyor. Duties included container loading and unloading surveys, cargo discharge and loading surveys on vessel’s, as well as numerous heavy lift loading and lashing surveys on board a variety of vessel’s within Durban and surrounding harbours. Left Independent Surveyors for P & I Associates in June 2007 where he was involved in P & I surveys for all of the clubs.

During his time in Australia, he has been involved in several projects involving high value and critical equipment, notably the Tunnelling machines for the Northern Link and transformers to the power station outside Dalby. Jason was admitted as an associate of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors.

OLAV
Olav Castellino has sailed on various types of vessels engaged in ocean going and coastal trades. He has been involved with the implementation of ISO and ISM procedures on vessels from 1986-1995. The achievement of his sailing carrier was as the chief officer of the worlds largest Tanker the Jahre Viking. As a claims handler Olav has handled complex claim matters and as a marine surveyor has conducted numerous P&I surveys, break bulk surveys, oil & gas quantity and quality, container surveys on behalf of Owners, Charterers and P&I Clubs. He has also been a part of the shipbuilding and shiprepair industry and was involved with various projects and dry-docking of vessels in Singapore, Dubai and Bahrain.

Captain Castellino has more than 14 years experience in marine surveying and is a member of the Australian Institute of Marine Surveyors.

KLAUS
Klaus is a qualified foreign going Master Mariner and Graduated Engineer for Sea Transport, who served at sea with Hamburg-Sud (Columbus Line) from 1965 on dry and refrigerated vessles as well as RoRo and fully cellular ships. During this period he also supervised the construction of two new RoRo vessels provided under a German aid program for the nations of Samoa and Tonga.

Klaus migrated to Australia in 1981 and was employed for 12 years on the waterfront, gaining extensive knowledge in planning and operations in a hands-on role as supervisor and later in senior management. He was also responsible for the establishment and successful operation of a stevedoring company in Auckland, New Zealand until his return to Australia in 1992.
