Independent Owner and Operator Klaus Wermuth established Cargo Care Pty Ltd as a fully registered limited Company in Brisbane Australia in 1993. Klaus retired in 2009 when the company was acquired by Capt. Olav Castellino.

The principal surveyor of the company is Capt. Olav Castellino who has 40 years’ experience in the shipping industry and has sailed in various ascending capacities at sea including the rank of Master.

Over the years the company has grown out of Brisbane and now operates in all states of Australia with offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Port Kembla and Melbourne. We also carry out surveys in Gladstone, Fremantle and Adelaide. The Brisbane office is operated by Capt. Arif Sheikh with Capt.Roy Pedimonte; Sydney and Port Kembla office by Glen D'Souza with Rahul Antill; Melbourne office by Capt. Lionel Rodrigues, with Rizwan Malik and Kithsiri Jayathilake.
CAPT. OLAV CASTELLINO

Olav Castellino has sailed on various types of vessels engaged in ocean going and coastal trades. He has been involved with the implementation of ISO and ISM procedures on vessels from 1986-1995. The achievement of his sailing carrier was as the chief officer of the worlds largest Tanker the Jahre Viking. As a claims handler Olav has handled complex claim matters and as a marine surveyor has conducted numerous P&I surveys, break bulk surveys, oil & gas quantity and quality, container surveys on behalf of Owners, Charterers and P&I Clubs. He has also been a part of the shipbuilding and shiprepair industry and was involved with various projects and dry-docking of vessels in Singapore, Dubai and Bahrain.

Captain Castellino has more than 20 years experience in marine surveying and is a member of Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors.
CAPT. ARIF SHEIKH

Arif Sheikh joined Cargo Care in November 2020 and manages Brisbane Cargo Care office.

Professionally qualified as a Master <3000GT, with a Bachelor degree in science from Mangalore University, India, Higher National Diploma in Nautical science from Southampton Solent University, UK, DNV Certified ISM, ISPS and MLC Auditor, Flag State Inspector for Marshall Islands, and a member of Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors.
He started his shipping career with Dockendale shipping management in 2003, and later worked for many shipping companies, and has 16 years of experience in shipping. He has sailed as an officer on Bulk carriers, Dredger, Reefer container and Ro-Ro vessels. He joined Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) in 2012 and was promoted as a Chief Officer in 2017. He has mastered resourceful short courses like Risk management & Incident investigation, Human Element, Leadership & Management, and he is very well versed with old as well as new Navigational equipment, and industry standard SOLAS, ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, MLC etc. He specializes in Car Ships and Ro-Ro cargoes, P& I club surveys, OOG cargo & lashing surveys, Pre – AMSA inspections, Container cargo damage surveys & inspections, Port Captaincy / Cargo superintendence, Draught and Bunker Surveys.
CAPT. LIONEL RODRIGUES

Lionel Rodrigues joined Cargo Care in 2019 and currently operates the Melbourne office.

His career in the Merchant Navy began in 2008 as a cadet with Anglo Eastern Ship Management Pvt Ltd after completing his tertiary qualification as a Bachelor of Nautical Science. Whist sailing on General Cargo (with gantry cranes) and Container vessels, he was promoted to the rank of Chief Officer in 2016.

In 2016 following his accreditation from AMSA in Tasmania as a DPO (unlimited), he joined Sapura Energy and made the move to sail on Class 3 DP vessels indulging in Pipej laying, Heavy lift and sub-sea construction projects off the coast of various countries. The achievement of his off-shore carrier was sailing as a Chief Officer and Captain on ‘Sapurakencanna 1200’ and overseeing the TANAP (Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline) project and various other sub-sea projects.

Lionel came ashore and joined Wilhelmsen Ship Management Pty Ltd in Gladstone, Australia as a Ship’s Agent where he spent 2 years building his agency knowledge and expertise across LNG, Tankers, Container and Bulk vessels at the fifth largest multie commodity port in Australia. He gained in-depth proficiency whilst dealing with major companies such as BHP, Rio Tinto, ConocoPhillips etc. In 2019, Lionel took the opportunity to join Cargo Care as a Marine Surveyor and Consultant specialising in advisory surveys for grain loading including calculations for complying with AMSA grain criteria, Draft surveys, Hold inspections, Container damages, P&I surveys, Cargo Superintendence, Pre-Port State Control inspection, Vehicle inspections, Lashing surveys, Bunker and on hire/ off hire surveys.

He is also a fully accredited grain surveyor, and is a member of Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors.
GLEN OWEN D'SOUZA

Glen Owen D'Souza is a Maritime industry professional with over 30 years' experience in various sea going and land based roles.

His seagoing Career started in 1984 when he was employed as a  Marine Radio Communications and Electronics Officer by World Wide Shipping Co. Ltd. Hong Kong, and served on various bulk and tanker vessels.

In 2006 Glen moved to Australia and took a shore job with Maersk Line in Sydney as the National Vessel Operations and Vessel Stowage Planner. In this role his duties and responsibilities were to develop and implement container stowage plans for company feeder service vessels, ensuring the stowage plan has reserves of stability for safe passage of Vessel to the next port with Safety of Vessel, Crew and Cargo given paramount importance.

Ensure stability and stresses of the vessel  meets with Masters requirements, attending  vessel and terminals during the loading of dangerous and out of gauge cargo. He liaised with all Australian terminals for berthing company vessels, Measured and reported on Terminal Berth productivity and Port Idle time and was the focal point for accepting Hazardous and Break Bulk Bookings.

In 2011 he  returned to the sea and worked with CSL and Inco Shipping Pvt.Ltd and undertook Independent Navigational watches at sea and in port, the procuring and maintenance of all on board Fire fighting and Safety equipment as per SOLAS and National and International regulations. He took charge for ensuring Ship Oil Pollution Equipment Plan and Equipment (SOPEP)  are in place during Vessels Bunkering operations.

Glen then became the assistant Manager, for a Floating Offshore Transfer Barge and was in charge of securing Barge to Bulk carrier Vessels and efficiently loading Iron Ore into the  vessel holds, the Management of  Barge Cargo Control Room operations, barge, tugs and Vessel movements. He also was the key in preparing and maintaining transhipment records, and the of procuring and maintenance of all on board Fire Fighting and Safety equipment as per SOLAS  and International and National  regulations.

Glen joined Cargo Care in 2012 and has been a valued member of the Cargo Care team ever since and he is also a member of Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors
